Official Opening of the St. Ann's Centre for Older People
Age Concern Rotherham's newly refurbished St. Ann's Centre was officially opened on Monday 14th June by the Mayoress, Councilor Rose Mc Neely. The Centre has been refurbished following a capital grant from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, which has enabled Age Concern to create a new reception area and two new treatment rooms in which a wider range of services will be offered to older people in the Borough.
The grant has also helped to convert the old kitchen into an up-to-date area where freshly prepared meals can be cooked for users of the Centre.
Lesley Dabell, Age Concern's Chief Executive said, "We can't thank the Coalfields Regeneration Trust enough, they have helped us to create a smart, up-to-date facility that will benefit lots of Rotherham's older people in the future. Staff and service users are very proud of how things look now the work has been done".
Debbie Clarke, the St. Ann's Centre Co-ordinator, added, "We have already started to deliver some new services using the new facilities, in response to requests from older people. These include footcare, hand and foot massage and hairdressing. The response we have had so far to these new services has been very positive and users of the centre are very happy with having more things on offer. We will be consulting again with older people about other kinds services they might want us to offer in the future as well as developing more activities and opportunities for older people to have more social contact by using the Social Centre".
Liz Booth, Chair of Rotherham Older People's Forum said, " I am delighted to see Age Concern Rotherham putting new services in place for older people. We all know about the increase in the older population that we are expecting in the next few years. Organisations like Age Concern will be very important in making sure that older people can find the kinds of services and support they will need now and in the future to live independently and have a good quality of life".
