Current Volunteer Vacancies

We are looking for young volunteers to breakdown barriers between the young and the old, whether it’s, befriending an elderly person, working on a market stall, selling goods on ebay or organising a dance/drama to perform at a day centre. If you’ve got an idea on how to breakdown barriers then we could support you to turn your ideas into reality. Whether you can give one day or get involved with longer projects, there are plenty of opportunities.

You will gain new skills, meet new people, and have fun! It won’t cost you to be a volunteer as equipment, refreshments and travel costs will be covered by Age Concern.

Below are our current volunteering opportunities.

Volunteering Opportunities
V Project

Age Concern Rotherham is funded by V to provide quality volunteering opportunities for 16-25 year olds. V is a volunteering organisation with an ambition to change the face of volunteering and inspire a million more young volunteers to get involved and do their bit. V has already funded over 700,000 volunteering opportunities across the UK.

The range of volunteering opportunities that young people have been involved in at Age Concern Rotherham include: Day Centre assistant, Receptionist, Linkline caller, befriender, Market stall assistant, fundraiser, Craft and music demonstrators, Nail painters, Party helpers, IT mentors, Newsletter editors and reporters to name but a few. These photos illustrate how happy our young volunteers are to take part in volunteering tasks across the depts. of Age Concern Rotherham. They contribute a great deal to the work of Age Concern Rotherham and many of the services would not be available or would be greatly reduced if it were not for the contributions of them and all our volunteers who give such valuable service to the over 50 population of Rotherham.  www.vinspired.com

Age Concern Rotherham currently works with over 100 volunteers. These men and women are essential to the work of the organisation and it would be true to say that we could not provide our wide range of services without their support.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering can be a way of putting your skills to good use. This could mean anything from helping in a day centre to arranging for emergency heating for an isolated older person. Everybody has something worth sharing and volunteering can be a way of realising this potential.

What do Volunteers do?

  • Work in day centers under the supervision of a trained member of staff
  • Tasks may include assisting with recreational activities, serving meals or refreshments and acting as an escort on one of our vehicles
  • Visit older people in their own homes to provide friendship and practical information
  • Work in an office
  • Driving or escorting on minibuses

What can Volunteers expect from Age Concern Rotherham?

Although not always necessary we can provide training sessions for volunteers who are interested in developing particular skills or areas of knowledge relating to older people.
Volunteers are guaranteed the support of Age Concern Rotherham staff and are not expected to deal with situations with which they feel unable to cope. The key to volunteering is that volunteers are able to define the type of work they feel able to undertake.

Volunteer Forum
The Volunteer Forum is a volunteer led group to discuss volunteering issues at Age Concern Rotherham and to organise social events for the volunteers.

If you would like to take part contact Claudia on 01709 386831

Great Opportunity
There are many great benefits of being a volunteer but there's now one more to add to the list. Volunteers now have the opportunity to train for a certificate in community volunteering. This certificate is acredited by Asdan (Award Scheme Developement and accreditation) and is a great way to identify the hard and rewarding work that volunteers do for their communtiy.

According to ASDAN, "the Community Volunteering Qualification recognises the general skills and attributes that volunteers (aged 14 - 80+) need to perform their roles effectively. It encourages volunteers to reflect on their experiences and improve what they do. It reinforces good practice and contributes to the investing in volunteers standard."
